Accessories are everything. They are what differentiate a home from a showroom: By adding our personality to the mix they speak volumes about our taste, our lifestyle, our travels, and our interests. It is of the outmost importance that when buying accessories YOU.MUST.NOT.RUSH.

We can’t stress this enough: Nothing can be tackier as a house full of generic “decorations” bought at a one-stop-shop department store. Thorough thought must be put into selecting our accessories, and although we are an interior design firm that can easily make a lot of profit in buying art and accessories for our clients, we always encourage them go on their own when looking for accents, because after all they should speak more about them, and not us.

You should really look at your home accessories as a ‘collection’, and as such, you must start building it with a strong curator’s eye: you should LOVE each and every piece, and they should always carry a meaning that is true to you.

We know that when getting a new home you may want it to look ‘homey’ right away, but we strongly advise that you to take your time, and little by little start building your collection by following your gut. Go to flea markets, bring indigenous objects from your trips, get in the art scene and bet on that upcoming artist’s piece you saw at a show, or buy one-of-a-kind collector’s items at those cute little museum gift-shops (they’re our favorites!).

Some items can be expensive, others might be cheap, and some you may even have found on a sidewalk (one man’s trash can be another man’s treasure!). Slowly but steadily you will create a carefully selected collection of items that will have a story of their own - And those are always great convo starters!

There are a few things that we consider a must on every home:

Greenery: Pay attention to the light condition – some plants require lots of natural light, and if you don’t have much of it you should go for indoor plants instead –  Psst! We made you a guide!

Flowers: We know they can be hard to keep up sometimes, but they will ALWAYS make your place look like an adult actually lives there. Plus, maintaining flowers can be a cathartic practice that reminds you the ephemeral condition of life and beauty (intense, we know)

Family and friends portraits: Do we really need to explain this one?

Books: We all have them: We may have read them, we may have never opened them, but books are LIFE, and they just happen to be gorgeous to look at! Get them on your shelves, on your coffee tables, in your kitchen, in the bathroom, on an empty corner, there really isn’t an end here. And go on, read them already.

Art: We can go on and on and on on this subject. In fact, we made a whole post about it and you can read it here!
